What is Gel-X by Gina?
Gina is a small business owner and experienced nail technician with three years of expertise in Gel-X and gel overlay manicures.
Initially, she conducted all her business through Instagram, but as her client list grew, she reached out to my team to create a website featuring a booking system, testimonials, a service menu, integration of her referral program, an about page, and an FAQ and policies page.
She requested a sleek, clean, modern, and unique design.
Nail Gallery
At Gina's request for a clean and unique design, we used an oval-shaped gallery, resembling a nail, to showcase her previous works while also giving an overview of the services she offers.
Service Menu
After several iterations of the service menu, we discovered that grouping the polishes (Gel and Gel-X) together on a "Polishes" tab resulted in fewer pages and a more intuitive flow. This approach mirrors the natural process of selecting a manicure, where a user picks a polish, then an add-on, and potentially a removal.
Testimonials
Similar to the services gallery on the homepage, the testimonials section features the oval nail shape to maintain consistency throughout the website.
Booking Appointment
To maintain the flow from the services page, we separated the add-ons from the polishes and removals, as a customer must select a polish before choosing any add-ons.
The "Continue" button and a summary of the selected options only appear when the user is ready to proceed in the booking process, preventing user errors.
Reflection
Working with clients requires constant communication, but they aren't always available. Understanding their vision allows designers to make informed inferences for the brand and website.
Consistency in galleries, buttons, text sizes, etc. is crucial for high-quality design. However, innovative and unique ideas can be applied to create personal style, as long as they don't detract from the content.
